Our Services

What We Do

MDpanel provides a wide range of expert medical opinions. Below is a list of our most popular services. Contact us for any similar need for an independent opinion from our network of top physicians and healthcare professionals across the country.

Independent Medical Evaluations (IME)

IMEs are third-party, unbiased medical opinions that support the resolution of a medical claim for injured workers or other parties. These opinions commonly provide additional guidance regarding key claim elements such as appropriate care pathways, current work capabilities, and detailed discussions of causation and/or apportionment issues specific to each case.

MDpanel connects attorney groups, insurance carriers, and patients to the strongest medical panel of physicians and healthcare professionals available. While obviously versed in patient care, these physicians are also experts in assessing legal implications of the patient’s specific situation. MDpanel provides comprehensive support throughout this process including, but not limited to:

  • Educate physicians to ensure they are up to speed with the latest developments in medical-legal support
  • Connect and schedule those in need of specific medical opinions to those who are most capable of providing them
  • Support comprehensive correspondence for all aspects of the case to all parties
  • Acquire and deliver all supporting information and documentation to the physician prior to the evaluation
  • Support all logistical elements for the day of evaluation
  • Provide dictation and transcriptions services to the physician
  • Support and quality assure IME report production to ensure the evaluation comprehensively answers all aspects of the medical case
  • Process all payments through billing, collection, and payment distribution
  • Manage secondary requests, depositions, re-evaluations, etc. as needed

California Qualified Medical Evaluations (QME)

QMEs are third-party, unbiased medical opinions that support the resolution of a medical claim for injured workers or other parties. QMEs are a close variant to the broader IME model specific to California Workers’ Compensation claims. The California Department of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) has very specific guidelines that need to be followed for its QME process. MDpanel supports more QME claims than any other provider.

MDpanel offers not only the most extensive clinic network in California, which is critical in the placement and evaluation processes, but also the largest and most diverse group of physicians. These providers are expertly trained and credentialed to support all QME requirements. MDpanel provides comprehensive support through this process including, but not limited to:

  • Educate physicians to ensure they are up to speed with the latest developments in medical-legal support and are qualified to perform QMEs per DWC guidelines
  • Support and quality assure QME report production to ensure the evaluation comprehensively answers all aspects of the medical case
  • Process all payments through billing, collection, and payment distribution
  • Manage secondary requests, depositions, re-evaluations, etc. as needed

California Agreed Medical Evaluations (AME)

Similar to both IMEs and QMEs, California AMEs are instances where the QME participants agree on a specific physician to assume the case. While far less common than QMEs, AMEs provide both requesting parties a physician they know and trust; in return the physician receives significant financial upside. MDpanel spends significant effort promoting our top physicians for AME work and introducing them to attorney groups and payers. The support services for the evaluations themselves include all those provided for QMEs.

Medical Expert Witness

MDpanel has an extensive network of medical experts spanning a wide range of specialties nationwide. We collaborate with the most reputable law firms to provide expert witness testimony for personal injury, labor and employment, product liability, wrongful death, elder abuse, and medical malpractice cases, to name a few. Our medical professionals provide expert opinions for plaintiffs and defense attorneys alike.

Fitness for Duty Evaluations

A fitness for duty evaluation — FFD or FFDE, for short — is an examination conducted by a medical professional to determine an employee’s ability to physically, mentally, or emotionally perform essential job functions. Employers or government agencies request an FFD evaluation if there is reasonable concern that an employee may be unable to fulfill their job functions because of a medical or psychological impairment — or in instances where an employee may be a direct threat to themselves or others.

MDpanel frequently receives requests for FFDEs from state and federal agencies, private and public companies, staffing firms, universities, municipalities and other organizations. We offer our FFD providers training and support they need to excel in med-legal expert work.

Peer Review

Peer reviews are comprehensive evaluations of paper-based medical records by a trained and experienced independent medical expert to assess the strengths or weaknesses of medical claims in workers’ compensation or personal injury cases. They assess a diagnosis, level of treatment, appropriateness of care, medical necessity, and related issues to help attorneys strengthen their cases.

MDpanel collects and prepares all medical records for expert medical review. The final reports undergo stringent quality assurance processes and are customized to align with individual state requirements and turnaround times.

To guarantee your satisfaction, MDpanel offers a complimentary initial consultation with any of our peer-review medical professionals prior to retaining an expert.

Disability Evaluations

MDpanel provides comprehensive medical-legal practice management for our medical experts who perform disability evaluations. These examinations are intended to determine the extent of a patient’s disability. Our services include document processing and management, scheduling and calendaring of disability assessments and phone conferences, billing and collections, and access to disability evaluation locations. To assist physicians in providing retaining parties with the best possible disability determination reports, we also offer a customized report-writing consulting and quality assurance program.

California SIBTF

The Subsequent Injuries Benefits Trust Fund, or SIBTF, is a program of the California DWC that provides a source of additional compensation to injured workers who had a pre-existing disability at the time of their work injury. The fund is meant to encourage employers to offer jobs to people with a pre-existing condition without fear of being held liable for the effects of their previous impairment. It is also meant to encourage those with a pre-existing disability to seek employment.
